Inhibitor targeting peptide 1 (also known as Prohibitin-TP01 and TP01; trade name Adipotide) is a peptide mimetic with the sequence CKGGRAKDC-GG-D (KLAKLAK) 2. Its mechanism of action is to target specific blood vessels that provide blood to adipose tissue, causing vasoconstriction and inducing apoptosis of adipocytes fed by these vessels. Adipotide is designed to bind to two receptors, ANXA2 (membrane mucin A2) and inhibitory protein, which are specific to blood vessels supplying white adipose tissue.Adipotide kills adipocytes by targeting their blood supply, which is simple and straightforward. Interestingly, this peptide can distinguish blood vessels in adipocytes from blood vessels in other parts of the body, making it highly selective.
